Details

Continental's Grand Prix 4000 S boasts Conti's Black Chili rubber compound for 26% less rolling resistance, 30% more traction and 5% more wear (than previous Grand Prix 4000 tires). This makes for one of the fastest tires in the peloton. Even better, the GP 4000 boasts a tough Vectran sub-tread for exceptional puncture protection, a 330-tpi casing for a velvety-smooth ride and tread-wear indicators to eliminate guessing. If you're looking for the ultimate road tire, you've found it.

Continental's Black Chili rubber compound significantly improves wear, traction and rolling resistance through the use of carbon nanotechnology, microscopic carbon particles in the rubber. These mold better to the ground and have more points of contact, which gives the tire more grip. And, because the compound matrix is formed of more particles, which are connected more tightly with each other, the tire lasts longer. Plus, the smaller particles are more flexible, too, which improves rolling resistance.
Vectran is a liquid-crystal polymer woven into the Grand Prix 4000 as armor against cuts, abrasions and impacts. It's also incredibly flexible to conform to the road's contours enhancing traction and feel. Finally, Vectran resists fatigue caused by repeated flexing, which lengthens the tire's life.
The Grand Prix 4000 features these wear indicators. When they disappear, it's new-tire time.

Excellent Tire !

By

Pros

  • Durable Rubber
  • Lightweight
  • Great Traction
  • Resistant To Element

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Road Biking

    Comments:

Currently have 1400 miles on these tires and they still have plenty of tread left on them. Rear tire is wearing a little bit but wear indicators still show plenty of mileage left. Tires have excellent traction and stick well in turns even when bike is laid over quite a bit and at speed. Have not had a single flat on them (knock on wood). I weigh 160 lbs and ride mostly on concrete and asphalt. I try to avoid chipseal when possible but still have a fair amount of rough road mileage on them. An all around excellent tire that I would recommend to anyone.

      Comments:

This tire has exceeded my expectations. All pro comments except the low wear factor. I've maxed out at 2500 miles for my rear tire. I have had better experience with wear with the Force/Attack combo. You give up a little protection, but well worth it. If you want a better tire, check out the Vittoria Corsa CX series. Great all around, but harder to find for a reasonable price.

I have these tires on two of my bikes. Each set has nearly 2000 miles on it. I have had no problems, and the road grip is superb. Before I used the 4000s model I used the 4000. I love the tires and speced them on my new custom bob brown bike.

The bead started to separate from the tire within a week and the sidewall blew out within two months.
